Adding Multiple Files to an Assignment

How to Submit Multiple Files for a Single Assignment in Moodle

Some assignments require you to submit more than one file — for example, an audio recording and a written document (PDF or Word file). Moodle's file submission area accepts multiple files at once. This guide shows you how to upload all required files before submitting.

Steps

  1. Open the assignment

Navigate to the assignment in your course and click Add submission (or Edit submission if you've already started).

  2. Upload your first file

In the File submissions area, click the Add button (the icon with a plus sign) and select your first file — for example, your podcast audio file (.mp3, .m4a, etc.).

  3. Upload your second file

Do not click Save Changes yet. Click the Add button again and upload your second file — for example, your script or reflection document (.pdf or .docx). You can upload up to the maximum shown at the top of the file box.

  4. Confirm both files are listed

Before saving, verify that both files appear as icons in the submission box — one for your audio recording and one for your document.

  5. Save your submission

Click Save Changes. On the Submission status page, confirm that both files appear under File submissions and your status shows Submitted for grading.

  6. Your Submission status page should list both files under File submissions:

If only one file appears, click Edit submission to add the missing file, then save again.

Common Issues

I only see one file after submitting.
Click Edit submission, use the Add button to upload the missing file, then click Save Changes again.

The Add button is grayed out or missing.
The assignment may have closed, or you may have reached the maximum file limit. Contact edgh@uw.edu
