Slow network? How to submit your assignments using text entry

You can submit online Assignments in Canvas using several submission types. Instructors can choose what kind of online submissions they want you to use. You may also have the option to resubmit assignments if your instructor allows.

If you live in an area with a slow network, We advise participants to try the "text entry" method of submitting your assignment. If you have limited bandwidth to work with, uploading a document can slow things down. With text entry, there is no need to upload a document and it is more efficient in a slow network. You simply compose your assignment in a separate document and when you finish, just copy and paste from the document into the text entry box for the assignment. Very easy!

Follow these instructions to become familiar with text entry submissions in Canvas:

Click on Assignments

In Course Navigation, click the Assignments link.

Note: You can also access your Assignments through your user or course dashboard, the Syllabus, Gradebook, Calendar, or Modules.

Click the name of an assignment.

Submit Assignment
To initiate assignment submission, click the Submit Assignment button to submit your work.

Select Text Entry Submission Type
To submit a text entry assignment, select the Text Entry tab. Paste the text of your written assignment to this box. Click Submit Assignment
